Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has urged the Ugandan government to take stern action against Kenyan activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, who have allegedly been abducted in Uganda.

In a statement on Thursday, September 2, Cherargei claimed that the Ugandan government should punish the activists, whom he claims "were exporting bad manners", threatening to sabotage the national security of the country.

Cherargei said that the two activists should have learned a lesson from the past incident where activists, including Boniface Mwangi, were abducted in Tanzania after they tried to conduct activism activities.

"Our Kenyan activists should stop exporting bad manners to other countries because in Kenya, there is too much freedom for them. The Uganda government must deal with anyone who wants to undermine or threaten their national security and integrity," Cherargei stated.

"These gentlemen should ask what happened to their fellow activists led by Boniface Mwangi and others a few months ago while trying to export bad manners to Tanzania," he added.

The two activists were allegedly abducted in Uganda on Wednesday, September 1, as they were heading for a meeting with the National Unity Platform (NUP) Presidential candidate Bobi Wine.

According to one activist who had accompanied the two, their phones were immediately switched off after they were bundled into a van.

The two were abducted at a petrol station in Kireka, Kampala, where they had stopped to repair their car, according to witnesses.

Castigating the incident on his official X account, Bobi Wine said that the abduction of the two activists undermined the spirit of solidarity.

"We strongly condemn the abduction by armed operatives of Kenyan activists and human rights defenders Bob Nyagi and Nicholas Ayoo. The two were picked up mafia-style this afternoon from a petrol station in Kireka and driven off to an unknown destination!" Wine said on Wednesday.

"We condemn the continuing lawlessness by the rogue regime and demand that these brothers be released unconditionally! The criminal regime apparently abducted them simply for associating with me and expressing solidarity with our cause!" he added.

On the other hand, Vocal Africa CEO Hussein Khalid said that the Ugandan government should ensure the immediate and unconditional release of the two.
