Government has announced plans to pay content creators and influencers who are promoting flagship programs such as health, affordable housing, agriculture and job creation.
Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy, Dennis Itumbi, said that influencers will receive direct financial support for promoting government projects.
“The government is willing to put money specifically for a few things that the government is doing and you can benefit directly. “
“I would want creators to take advantage, if you do content around housing, health, job creation and agriculture. We are willing to put money and content for you,” Itumbi said.
According to Itumbi, the government has overhauled its advertising strategy and migrated to digital platforms.
He asked influencers to create content and take advantage of government revenue that is set aside for content creation.
“We give you the money and note for you to create content and earn by posting on TikTok around those agendas,” he added
Itumbi added that the programme will enable influencers to submit a proposal to the Creative Economy Office, outlining how they intend to showcase government projects in an informative manner.
He said that the Kenya Kwanza government is using this strategy to improve communication in a transparent way.
Additionally, Itumbi supported Tiktoker's initiative of building an ultra-modern hospital where healthcare services will be free to members of the public.
Itumbi said that he had embraced the idea, calling it a brilliant and welcome one.
“That is a brilliant idea, Kenyans have created hospitals in this country through offerings, that is why we have faith-based hospitals. President Ruto is also overseeing the construction of 70 hospitals by the KDF."
"So if TikTokers can organise themselves and build another hospital, then it is brilliant. Such initiatives are welcomed, and that is a very brilliant idea." Itumbi stated.
