Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominated party candidate for Kisa East ward, Abraham Isaiah Ayaya has declined the party’s nomination ahead of the November 27 by-elections.

In a statement on October 2, Ayaya announced that he opted to move to the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) instead.

Ayaya said that ODM on September 1, issued him a nomination certificate before he had reached a conclusion over the matter.

He said that by that time, his name had already been forwarded to the DAP-K party, where he is registered as a lifelong member.

"Subsequently, I hereby respectfully decline the nomination certificate issued to me and dated [October] 1, 2025, and the name is hereby returned," he stated in the statement.

His statement came barely 24 hours after ODM announced Ayaya’s candidacy for the Kisa East ward seat after revoking Thomas Oyoolo’s nomination.

Ayaya was issued a direct ticket by Kakamega Governor and ODM County chairperson Fernandes Barasa on Wednesday, October 1.

The seat has been vacant since former MCA Stephen Maloba was impaled until he passed at a political event organised by Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka in Munjiti Village in 2023.

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, when confirming the incident, said that Maloba was allegedly impaled until he passed in a confrontation with a local MP

Maloba, who was voted on a KANU ticket, was impaled after a melee ensued between supporters of the two camps.

"We would like to stay here longer, but we can't. Apologies for that. An MCA has just passed away in Khwisero Constituency.

"He was impaled after a confrontation ensued between two camps, his and that of an MP," Savula claimed.
