Kenya Meteorological Department has warned residents of Nairobi and neighbouring areas to expect intense rainfall from October 3 to October 5, 2025, which could lead to flooding.
According to a report by the weatherman, some Nairobi metropolitan areas will experience heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm while some will receive moderate rainfall of a range of 5mm to 50mm.
The department added that rainfall is also expected in the Rift Valley, North Western Kenya, Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria Basin.
Areas in Highland East, such as Kiambu, Nyeri, Muranga, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Kirinyaga, will experience showers over the weekend with temperatures ranging from moderate of 28°C and 29°C and low of 8°C and 10°C.
Meanwhile, parts of North-western Kenya such as Turkana and Samburu, are to experience occasional showers and thunderstorms with a hot temperature of 35°C.
Areas in the Lake Victoria Basin, such as Kisii, Bungoma, Kakamega, Narok, Nyamira, Nakuru and Trans Nzoia, will also experience rains and thunderstorms. Regions will have a temperature average of 27°C and 29°C
In the Coast and North-eastern counties, the department predicted that they will see mostly sunny intervals with occasional showers.
In these counties, the department stated that residents will experience mostly sunny conditions with occasional showers in the area.
Localised Floods
The department warned of localised floods, traffic disruptions urging citizens to exercise caution.
“Residents should remain alert as localized flooding, traffic disruptions, and slippery roads are likely. We advise motorists and pedestrians to plan to avoid risks associated with heavy rains,” the department said in a statement.
The weatherman warned citizens that since floods may occur, they should avoid crossing moving waters and they stay indoors during thunderstorms.
It also warned of strong winds that may cause property damage.
