Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) has announced that tea farmers will receive their final payment by Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

In a statement released on October 8, the agency stated that smallholder tea farmers would receive the payments following the conclusion of the 2024–25 financial year.

According to the agency, farmers will receive the payments directly in their bank accounts, along with the proceeds from green leaf deliveries made in September 2025.

“Following the conclusion of the Financial Year 2024/25 accounts and subsequent declaration of the final green leaf payment by the respective factory Boards of directors, the same shall be released to the farmers’ respective banks not later than 15th October 2025 along with green leaf deliveries for September 2025,” part of the statement reads.

The agency announcement came a day after Agriculture Principal Secretary Kipronoh Rono directed that the funds reflect in farmers' pay slips.

"You are hereby required to ensure that the funds are paid equitably to farmers and reflected in their payslip as GOK Refund," Rono directed.

Recovered Chase, Imperial Bank Funds

KTDA also noted that the farmers will receive funds recovered from Chase Bank and Imperial Bank, which have been under liquidation for several years.

In 2016, the two banks faced closure due to financial problems, trapping a large some of money for including that of farmers.

After government interventions, the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation released funds amounting to Ksh2.7 billion to facilitate the recovery of funds.

"In addition, the farmers will be paid the funds recovered from Imperial Bank and Chase Bank, both under liquidation. The funds were received from the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation(KDIC). KTDA has lauded the government to facilitate the recovery of these funds on behalf of tea farmers," the statement added.

President William Ruto officiated the recovery on September 11, directing KTDA to remit the amount to farmers.

The Ksh2.7 billion funds are meant to cushion farmers, mostly those in the West of Rift, who receive low bonus payments recently announced by factories.
