The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a TikToker who claimed that he was offered Ksh3.5 million to assassinate a popular Member of Parliament (MP) in Nairobi.

The DCI confirmed the arrest of the TikToker on Friday evening, revealing that he had been arrested for allegedly publishing false information on his TikTok page.

According to the detectives, the man was arrested at his hideout in Malindi after investigations into the allegations. They added that he was in police custody pending arraignment.

His arrest followed a viral video he posted on October 20, where he claimed to have been offered millions by a high-ranking individual in the Executive to eliminate the MP.

“Detectives have arrested a popular TikToker for allegedly publishing false information on his TikTok page,” the DCI noted.

“In a viral video posted on October 20, 2025, the outspoken TikToker claimed that he had been paid Ksh3.5 million to assassinate a prominent individual,” it added.

In the video, the TikToker alleged that the assassination plot was tied to the demise of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, to prevent the lawmaker from becoming the new spokesperson of a action of Kenyans.

In the clip, the content creator, however, claimed he had not taken up the offer, warning Kenyans that the plot could cause chaos in the country. He also raised concerns about the matter, urging increased protection for the lawmaker amid the perceived plot.

A few days later, after the video went viral, the TikToker posted another video, this time clarifying that it was all a hoax and that he was doing it for ‘content creation’ purposes.

Despite the video circulating across the internet, the lawmaker and the government are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

Notably, during Raila's funeral, the lawmaker had expressed concern over an alleged plot to have goons attack him, but he did not specify those responsible.

This is not the first time a TikToker has been arrested over content posted on the platform. Back in July, city businessman-cum-TikToker Kan Maiyo was arrested over a video in which he allegedly incited the public against police officers.

The arrest follows the approval of the controversial Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which proposes increased scrutiny of online posts.
