Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga's hotel was vandalised on Monday by goons who made away with goods, reportedly worth millions and damaged the rest.
In videos and images seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the hotel's glass windows and doors were completely broken, as well as game tables and chairs at the establishment.
Reportedly, this incursion was a result of the MP supporting one Eric Wekesa, an aspirant for the Kabuchai-Chwele ward MCA seat in the upcoming by-elections.
Taking to social media following the looting, the MP denounced the raid, asserting that his stance should not be a cause for incursions on his personal businesses. He called for peace in honour of the late MCA James Barasa, who he said was not a violent man.
"I highly condemn the violence that has been going on in Kabuchai/Chwele Ward. How is an MCA by-election related to my own personal property?" MP Kalasinga stated.
"Dear residents, let’s maintain peaceful campaigns and uphold dignity. The late Hon. James Barasa was never violent. I truly rebuke this kind of behaviour."
Speaking from South Africa, where he is currently, he said that the raid would only strengthen his resolve to support Wekesa in the upcoming by-elections.
Following the raid, the employees at the hotel narrated how the event unfolded, relaying that nobody was seriously hurt at the hotel, except a little boy who encountered the goons on his way home.
They relayed that the goons had been able to access the establishment, as there had been no police officers in the area, including the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), since they were reportedly invigilating the ongoing KCSE examination.
"They went to the kitchen and unplugged everything, carried the food, broke the windows and stole goods, including TVs and chairs, all worth over Ksh1.8 million," one of the employees narrated.
"They assaulted our employees and then left. Another group joined them after. I want to urge our Chwele police officers to conduct investigations into the matter," he added.
Wekesa is running against Ford Kenya's Vincent Maunda in the upcoming November 27 by-elections.
The ward is among the 16 that will be voting for a new MCA. Baringo residents will also be voting for a new Senator, and six constituencies, including Malava, Kasipul and Mbeere North, will vote for MPs.
