The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned Kenyans living in different parts of the country to brace for moderate to heavy rains this weekend, starting Friday, November 7.
Kenya met in its weekend weather advisory announced that rains were expected in Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast and the South-eastern lowlands.
In Highland East regions, rains were forecasted in the counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi.
Likewise, in the Lake Victoria basin and the Rift Valley region, rains were projected in Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo and Uasin Gishu.
Other counties that were listed to experience a similar weather pattern in Lake Victoria and Rift Valley regions are Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.
In the South Eastern lowland region, rains would occur in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties as well as inland parts of Tana River County.
According to the weather department, rain in the aforementioned counties was predicted to start mostly in the afternoon after sunny and cloudy sessions.
The warning comes even as some parts of the country continue to receive heavy downpour, which has resulted in epidemics, including flooding and mudslides.
For instance, a week ago, at least 35 people were killed and several others left nursing critical injuries after a landslide occurred in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Temperature Advisory
In its advisory, the meteorological department also announced temperature fluctuations from this Friday up to next week on Tuesday, with several parts of the country expected to experience cold weather.
The weather department disclosed that night temperatures in the Highlands East counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi would drop up to 7°C.
According to Kenya Met, temperatures in the above counties would drop to 7°C in the first two days of the forecast period before rising steadily to 10°C.
Similarly, the counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo were projected to experience high daytime temperatures of up to 37°C.
