As Africa prepares for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Kenyans seeking to attend the continental showpiece have an opportunity to get free electronic visas to watch the tournament.
In to a notice issued by the tournament's Local Organising Committee (LOC), the e-visas will facilitate entry to and movement around Morocco during the tournament, which is scheduled to begin on December 21, 2025 and conclude on January 18, 2026.
According to LOC, fans are required to register for the free e-visas via an application, which also facilitates the registration of the mandatory fan ID to watch the games.
This combination of e-visa and fan ID is designed to streamline entry, reduce friction and make things easier for fans from across Africa and beyond.
Notably, the measure is temporary and linked to the tournament period. The free e-visa applies for the window running from September 25, 2025, to January 25, 2026.
Even though it is free, one must still meet eligibility requirements, such as having a valid passport, a proper photo, and accurate personal information.
Further, Kenyans who would like to go for AFCON were urged to apply well ahead of travel, as delays in registration, system glitches and documentation issues could occur.
Typically, as a Kenyan seeking to travel to Morocco, one would need to apply for a visa that lasts for at least 30 days. The price of a visa is usually between Ksh2,500 to Ksh4,800.
This year’s AFCON edition will be the 35th, with 24 nations seeking to claim the distinguished title of African champions. Notably, it is the first-ever edition to occur during the Christmas/New Year period.
Defending champions Ivory Coast have been placed in Group F, together with five-time winners Cameroon as well as Gabon and Mozambique who will both be seeking their first titles in Morocco.
The matches will be spread across six cities in Morocco and played out in nine venues across the North African nation. The Atlas Lions of Morocco will kickstart the tournament with a match against Comoros at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat on the opening day.
Kenya’s Harambee Stars did not qualify for the tournament. However, Kenya will feature in the next edition in 2027, as one of the host nations alongside Tanzania and Uganda.
