The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Sunday, November 30, 2025, launched a road safety cyclist competition at the Nakuru Showground, calling on all road users to share the road responsibly.
The event, titled Share the Road, Save Lives, was organized by NTSA and the Kenya Red Cross with support from other partners.
It brought together cyclists for races and activities to highlight safe road use.
The event ensured that participants and officials at the venue, had a focus on messages for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and boda boda riders.
NTSA said sharing the road helps cut down on crashes and builds respect among road users. The group noted that when everyone follows rules, it leads to fewer deaths and injuries.
Tips shared at the event included drivers watching for cyclists and pedestrians, keeping a safe distance, and avoiding phone use.
Cyclists were urged to wear helmets and bright clothing, stick to traffic rules, and stay visible.
Pedestrians were also encouraged to use crossings, look at drivers, and stay alert.
Boda boda riders should wear gear, follow rules, and watch for others.
These steps, according to NTSA, aimed to protect vulnerable users like cyclists and pedestrians, who face high risks on Kenyan roads.
The launch comes as road deaths hit 4,195 between January and November 13, 2025, up 2.9 percent from 4,077 in the same period last year.
Pedestrians led with 1,460 deaths, followed by 1,085 motorcyclists and 62 cyclists.
NTSA plans to take the competition to other towns in the coming months. The agency said such efforts support the goal to halve road deaths by 2030.
