The late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's younger sister, Beryl Achieng Odinga, has passed away.

The announcement was made by Raila's other sister, Ruth Odinga, who disclosed that Beryl died on Tuesday, November 25. She, however, did not disclose the cause of death.

While confirming Beryl's demise, Ruth revealed that Achieng was the daughter of Jaramogi's first wife, Mary Auma and a biological sister to Raila Odinga and Oburu Oginga.

In a heartfelt condolence notice, the Kisumu County Woman Representative reminisced about the shared moments and Beryl's profound impact on her life.

"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga. Daughter of the Late Jaramogi Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga. Mother to Ami Auma, Chizi and Taurus," Ruth announced.

"While we are deeply saddened by her demise and the immense void left in our lives, we take solace in the belief that she is safe in the Lord's arms and are thankful for the invaluable gift of the time we were privileged to share," she added.

According to reports which could not be independently verified at the time of publishing this article, the deceased passed away at a Nairobi hospital after a prolonged battle with illness.

Sources privy to the information further revealed that Beryl has been in and out of the hospital and finally succumbed on Tuesday.

The former Prime Minister's little-known sister had largely kept a low profile despite growing up in a family with a strong political orientation.

Despite maintaining a low profile, Beryl was an educationist; she was a professional teacher who doubled up as a lawyer. She is the only member of the wider Odinga family who attended school in Kenya.

Besides her illustrious teaching career, she also held senior positions, including serving as the Chairperson of the Nairobi Water and Sewage Company (NWSCO).

In 1974, Beryl got married to Otieno Abala, a real estate tycoon, but the couple later separated due to allegations of misunderstanding. It is not clear whether she remarried.

Meanwhile, her untimely death comes just six weeks after the demise of Raila, who passed away on October 15, 2025, after suffering a cardiac arrest in India.
