The Judicial Service Commission will on Monday, January 12, 2026, kick off a high-stakes judicial recruitment exercise as it opens public interviews to fill judge vacancies in three critical courts.
The exercise will run through March 23, 2026, at the JSC Boardroom, CBK Pension Towers, 12th Floor, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi.
In total, 45 judicial positions are up for grabs in what the Chief Justice Martha Koome-led JSC describes as a strategic move to strengthen the country's justice system.
The commission is looking to recruit 15 Judges of the Court of Appeal, 20 High Court Judges, and 10 Judges for the Environment and Land Court.
The interviews will be broadcast live on YouTube and Facebook, ensuring transparency throughout the process.
Law lecturer and author Migai Akech will be the first candidate to face the panel at 9 am on January 12.
He is among 35 shortlisted candidates for the Court of Appeal positions, drawn from 95 applicants who submitted their interest by the July 7, 2025, deadline.
"It is notified for general information that JSC will be conducting interviews for the positions from January 12, 2026, to March 23, 2026, at the JSC Boardroom, CBK Pension Towers, 12th Floor, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi," a notice signed by Chief Registrar Winfridah Mokaya reads.
High-profile names dot the list of interviewees, including Independent Policing Oversight Authority Chairperson Ahmed Isaack Hassan, High Court Judge Chacha Mwita, and lawyer Katwa Kigen.
The commission has invited the public to submit information about any shortlisted candidate in writing.
"Take note that the Commission may interview any member of the Public who has submitted information on any of the shortlisted candidates, and such information shall be kept confidential," the Chief Registrar stated.
For the High Court, lawyer Elizabeth Achieng Agutu will kick off interviews on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, with 100 candidates vying for 20 positions.
