Elgeyo Marakwet MCA Jeremiah Kibiwott Dies at Nairobi Hospital

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Member of County Assembly for Endo Ward in Baringo County, Jeremiah Kibiwott Kiptum, has died in a Nairobi hospital after a long illness.

Popularly known as Jeremiah Biwott or Jeremiah Toriebe, Kibiwott had served as the elected member for Endo Ward in Marakwet East Sub-County since 2022.

His death was confirmed by Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly Speaker Lawi Kibire, who described it as a significant loss to the Assembly and the people of Endo Ward. 

Kibire praised Kibiwott’s dedication and commitment to his constituents, noting that he always sought their input in legislative decisions.

''It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that I wish to inform the public of the passing of Jeremiah Kibiwott Kiptum, the elected member of Endo ward in Marakwet East Sub-County. The late Kibiwott served the Assembly and the people of Endo ward with dedication, commitment, and a strong sense of duty,'' the speaker announced. 

Kibiwott chaired the Committee on Agriculture and Irrigation, contributing to the development of the county’s agriculture and irrigation sector. 

He was also an active member of the Committees on Administration, Justice, Public Service and ICT, and Tourism, Trade, Cooperatives, Industrialisation, and Wildlife.

Meanwhile, Governor Wisley Rotich also mourned Kibiwott, offering condolences to his family, colleagues, and the people of Endo Ward. 

Rotich pointed out the late MCA’s service since his election in 2022 and urged everyone to support the family during this difficult time.

''With the permission of the family here at Nairobi Hospital, I wish to notify the EMC community and Endo ward community that Jeremiah Biwott has passed,'' Rotich stated.

Adding that, ''I wish to convey my sincere condolences to the family, friends, leaders, teachers, speaker, his fellow MCAs, people of Endo, and the entire EMC community.''

At the same time, the County Assembly Speaker announced that they will now nominate members to assist the family with funeral arrangements, with further details on burial plans to be announced.
