Olympic and World Champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi has been crowned as the World Athletics Male Track Athlete of the Year.
The announcement was made during the World Athletics Awards in Monaco on Sunday, November 30.
After a two-month voting process that involved both the World Athletics Council and the general public, Wanyonyi was voted as the top athlete in the track and field sector.
During the awards, Wanyonyi outshone other top athletes, including American sprinter Noah Lyles, to bag the award.
The 21-year-old has established himself as the champion of the men's 800m, winning every major title in the past two years.
Wanyonyi won the gold medal in the men's 800m final during the Paris Olympics with a personal best time of 1:41.19.
One year later, the youngster also claimed the world title in the men's 800m in Tokyo, running a championship record time of 1:41.86.
Throughout the season, Wanyonyi won multiple 800m races throughout the season, including in Oslo, Stockholm, Monaco, and London, and secured the overall Diamond League trophy for the third straight time at the final in Zurich.
During the awards, Kenya's Sebastian Sawe was also crowned World Athletics’ Out-of-the-Stadium Athlete of the Year.
Eight months ago, in April, Sawe won his first London Marathon title, where he clocked 2:02:27.
Later in October, Sawe also won the Berlin Marathon, where he timed 2:02:16.
During the awards, Sawe went head-to-head against Tanzania's world champion, Alphonce Simbu of Tanzania.
Lastly, 17-year-old Edmund Serem was also named the 2025 World Athletics Male Rising Star of the Year.
Serem won a World Championships bronze medal in Tokyo, becoming the youngest athlete to win a 3000m steeplechase medal.
