The police in Homa Bay County arrested 16 suspected armed thugs believed to be connected to an attack on Hon. Peter Kaluma at Agoro Sare Primary School polling station during the Kasipul Constituency by-election.
In a press statement released by the National Police Service on November 28, 2025, the suspected gang is believed to have been involved in or linked to the chaos that erupted during the by-election in Kasipul.
Images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the MP being surrounded by an armed mob that confronted and attacked him, leaving him injured.
Following the attack on November 27, 2025, police launched an intensive manhunt to track down those involved.
During the operation, officers intercepted five vehicles and two motorcycles linked to the suspects.
A search of the intercepted vehicles led to the discovery of 10 pangas, five knives, as well as rungus and stones.
The suspects are currently being held in custody and will be arraigned in court to face charges once the investigation is complete.
In a press release, the National Police Service condemned the attack on the MP and the disruption at the polling station, while reiterating its unwavering commitment to ensuring peaceful, secure, and transparent electoral processes across the country.
The Service assured the public that operations will continue to stop criminal activities during the election period.
