Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has rubbished online claims suggesting he was involved in a road accident along one of the major highways.
This is after a post widely shared on social media purported that the former Nairobi County boss was involved in a road crash while driving his Ksh40 million Mercedes G-Wagon.
The now-flagged post, widely circulated on the internet for a better part of Thursday, December 18, showed an image of an overturned Mercedes G-Wagon with a broken windscreen.
In response, Sonko dismissed the claims, labelling the allegations as fake propaganda meant to mislead and trigger panic among members of the public.
Sonko, in a brief statement on Friday morning, clarified that he was safe and in good health, insisting that no such incident occurred.
"I have noted fake propaganda being circulated claiming that one of my Mercedes G-Wagons was involved in a rollover accident," the former Governor clarified.
He added, "Let me categorically state that this information is false. I am very safe, well, and in good health. No such incident occurred."
While dismissing the claims, Sonko urged the public to ignore misinformation and rely only on verified facts, further warning people spreading the rumour to desist.
"I urge the public to ignore misinformation and rely only on verified facts. Those spreading falsehoods should desist. Thank you to everyone who reached out with concern and goodwill. Good day," Sonko reiterated.
The rumours of Sonko's involvement in an accident come even as the nation continues to mourn former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo, who passed away after an accident.
A quick spot check by Kenyans.co.ke established that some unscrupulous online users attempted to use false images of Sonko's G-Wagon to connect the fake accident to Jirongo.
A similar online incident also occurred days before, where fake images of the popular PSV Mood, affiliated with President William Ruto's son, emerged, purporting that it was involved in an accident. An insider has since come forward to disregard the reports.
Jirongo died on December 13, after a head-on collision between his vehicle and a bus along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, killing him on the spot.
However, the circumstances of his death have since sparked widespread concerns from Kenyans, with investigations still underway to establish the factors that led to his untimely demise.
