Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has assured the public that he is recovering well after he underwent a medical procedure following an illness.
In a statement on Sunday, December 28, the lawmaker, who did not specify the medical procedure he was undergoing or the nature of his illness, said that the overwhelming concern from Kenyans has been pivotal in enabling him and his family to navigate the difficult period.
Owino noted that he felt that it was important to inform the public about his health, and he hopes to resume his legislative duties in the new year.
"In the spirit of openness and honesty that should guide all who serve the public, I wish to share that I recently underwent a medical procedure following an illness," Owino said.
" By God’s grace, I am now on the path to recovery, and I remain hopeful and determined to resume my public duties in the new year," he added.
The lawmaker also extended his prayers and solidarity to Kenyans who were not able to enjoy the festive season together with their families at home because they were in the hospital battling illnesses.
Owino emphasised the importance of Kenyans remaining united in faith, compassion, and shared humanity, especially during this period when some are unable to enjoy the festive season due to illness and poverty.
"As I heal, my heart is especially with all Kenyans who have spent this Christmas season in hospital beds, away from their loved ones. I pray that God grants you healing, renewed strength, and comfort, and that your families are filled with hope during this challenging time," the MP said.
"No Kenyan should ever feel alone in suffering, and no family should be driven to despair because of illness or poverty. We must continue to stand together, bound by faith, compassion, and our shared humanity," he added.
The MP's clarification follows widespread rumours that he had been hospitalised at a Nairobi hospital under unclear circumstances, prompting concerns among Kenyans.
In a brief post two weeks ago, the MP, who appreciated Kenyans for their concerns, confirmed that he was ill and was in the process of recovering.
"Fellow Kenyans, I sincerely appreciate your concern and care. I am recovering well," The MP said.
In recent months, the vocal lawmaker has been the subject of nationwide attention, particularly following the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, with sections of Kenyans tipping him to succeed Raila as the ODM party leader.
A recent poll by Infotrak also appeared to suggest the Embakasi East MP was highly favoured among the public as the man to take over as the new ODM kingpin.
