The Ministry of Defence has invited Kenyans to apply for various vacant positions at the Kenya Defence Forces Civilian Staff Department.

In a statement released by KDF on Tuesday, December 30, the Ministry said it was looking for over 30 gardener assistants and 15 positions for sanitary cleaners.

The Ministry clarified that candidates would be hired on permanent and pensionable terms, encouraging ordinary Kenyans to apply. The applicants were encouraged to fill out an application form and submit it together with copies of other required documents.

"Applications are invited for the positions in the Ministry of Defence. Interested candidates should complete a one application form PSC2 and submit with relevant certificates," the statement stated.

Upon completing the application form, the applicants are advised to submit it to the principal secretary, Ministry of Defence Office, before January 20, 2026, for consideration.

KDF promised fair and equal consideration regardless of tribe, age, gender, or colour, encouraging that all Kenyans from all walks of life would be considered. It, however, warned that those planning to try unlawful means to get the job will automatically be disqualified and will face the law.

It further warned that the application was free and that the public should report any form of solicitation of money to their offices.

For one to qualify for consideration, an applicant must be a Kenyan citizen with a valid national identity card. In terms of education, the applicants should hold a minimum of a D plain in KCSE.

The gardeners would have a basic salary of between Ksh19,000 and Ksh24,000, a house allowance that would depend on the area of deployment, a KSh 3,000 commuter allowance, and a leave allowance of Ksh 4000 per year.

However, sanitary cleaners would pocket a basic salary of between Ksh18,000 and Ksh22,000 with the same amount of commuter and leave allowance. A permanent and pensionable contract will follow all these benefits.

Civilian jobs within KDF are usually managed through the Ministry of Defence, and their functions are distinct from those of uniformed military personnel. The civilian roles allow individuals to support military operations even without going through the usual intense training like that of the KDF officials.

Those who would be hired will also benefit from the Ministry's newly launched Career Progression Guidelines (CPGs) for civilian staff. The CPGs were launched in June 2025 to ensure structural growth and subsequent promotions for the civilian personnel.

The announcement came after the Ministry announced other vacancies for civilians. The vacancies included artisan roles, clerical positions, and professional cadres. The Public Service Commission also announced over 800 jobs recently.

How to Apply

The application form may be downloaded from the Public Service Commission website www.publicservice.go.ke, and the filled forms should reach the Principal Secretary’s office- Ministry of Defense in Nairobi, or individual delivery to Ulinzi House gate off Lenana Road, on or before January 20, 2026.
