The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has warned of a major traffic disruption along the route from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to James Gichuru as road expansion commences.

KeNHA formally began extensive road improvement works along the routes linking JKIA to ABC Place in Westlands on Thursday, January 15, aimed at enhancing safety and reducing traffic congestion.

According to the Authority, the ongoing road works include capacity enhancement, landscaping, and beautification along the 27-kilometre stretch.

"Works on capacity enhancement, landscaping, and beautification along the James Gichuru - JKIA (A8/B10) Highway are ongoing in earnest," KeNHA announced.

Images shared by KeNHA showed active road expansion activities, including excavation works and landscaping operations carried out by engineers and contractors on site.

Excavators and tipper trucks were spotted on the construction area, with survey and inspection teams deployed to oversee progress to ensure strict compliance with the road design.

KeNHA advised motorists using the affected sections to exercise caution, observe all traffic signage, and maintain low speeds while passing through the project area.

"Motorists plying the affected route are advised to exercise caution, observe traffic signage, and maintain low speeds within the project corridor," the Authority stated.

Adding, "KeNHA regrets any inconvenience caused and appeals to road users for cooperation to ensure their safety and facilitate the smooth and timely completion of the works.

The latest announcement comes hardly three days after the Authority ordered the removal of all roadside developments along the route within the next 14 days.

In the notice dated January 13, KeNHA directed owners and operators of roadside developments, including billboards, tree nursery beds, and temporary structures, to clear them from the route.

“All roadside developments within the said road reserve should be removed within 14 days from the date of this notice to pave the way for the implementation of the project works," the Authority stated.

KeNHA warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would result in the structures being removed without the permission of the owners or operators.
