Uhuru, Ruto Contributions in Narok Leave Many Surprised

Kenyans on social media were left baffled after a video emerged showing what seemed like one of the most expensive Harambees in the Kenyan history.

The video shared by social Media activist Robert Alai shows Narok Governor Samuel Tunai presiding over a Church fundraiser where President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto donated Sh34.5 Million each.

Tunai is heard calling on the bishop to receive the donations from political leaders and it is here that the drama starts.

At first, it sounds like a slip of the tongue when Tunai announces President Kenyatta had donated Sh34.5 Million – but the excited governor lifts the seemingly heavy bag containing the money.

The second donation was from DP Ruto, and he too, is not left behind as he matches the President’s donation to the last cent – another heavy sack containing Sh34.5 Million is lifted to the bewildered congregation.

Tunai then announces his ‘humble’ contribution of Sh6.8 Million while Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago gives Sh3.4 Million.

Last to contribute is Ruto’s Personal Assistant Farouk Kibet who donates Sh3.4 Million.

Amid the online furore sparked by the recording, it later emerged that the fundraiser was at a church in Uganda last weekend.

Speaking to Citizen TV, the Narok Governor stated that the donations were made in the neighbouring country's currency. Therefore, converted to the Kenyan currency, Uhuru and Ruto donated Ksh967,000 each while Governor Tunai and Mandago gave out Ksh190,000 and Ksh95,000 respectively.
