About 100 Helicopters to be Branded for Jubilee Politicians at Wilson Airport

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati recently announced that the official campaign period for the August 2017 General Election would commence on May 28 and end on August 5.

New revelations indicate that a section of Jubilee politicians has undertaken to brand close to 100 helicopters in an operation that is ongoing at the Wilson Airport.

Photos seen by Kenyans.co.ke show that Meru Senatorial aspirant Mithika Linturi, Kirinyaga Woman Representative hopeful Wangui Wa Ngirichi and Embakasi East parliamentary aspirant Francis Mureithi have already branded some choppers.

An official at the Airport chartering department told Kenyans.co.ke that chartered helicopters cost between Sh170,000 and Sh200,000 per hour with considerations of distance as well as the period of time for which they will be hired.

Branding the helicopter is charged at Sh100,000 for every five days it remains branded with some service providers charging an additional insurance fee.

Simple calculations show that the politicians may have spent close to Sh30 Million for every five days in which they use the helicopter for their campaigns.

When reached for a comment, the Jubilee party secretariat explained that the branding efforts were being funded by the politicians privately and that its branding team was solely occupied with President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election campaign.
