Mike Sonko's Supporters Die in Road Accident at Muthurwa

Two supporters of Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko died on Wednesday amid celebrations, shortly after the unveiling of Vivo Energy Kenya boss Polycarp Igathe as the running mate.

The two were part of a crowd that had accompanied Sonko to Jubilee party headquarters to receive his nomination certificate and were being ferried in a lorry.

Reports indicate that the two, who were standing at the back of the lorry, crashed their heads as the vehicle passed under the Muthurwa footbridge.

According to witnesses, the group was headed back to town centre with Sonko and Deputy President (DP) William Ruto addressing roadside rallies along the streets.

The accident has raised questions on public safety especially as the country heads into elections time.

Campaigns are characterised by convoys which are often overloaded and break traffic rules putting more lives at risk.
