President Uhuru Kenyatta Sends DP William Ruto to Tanzania For the 18th Summit of EAC Heads of States

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent Deputy President (DP) William Ruto to Tanzania to represent him at the 18th Summit of Heads of States of the East Africa Community (EAC).

The DP landed in Dar es salaam on Saturday morning where the Summit will be held.

The Summit will be preceded by the 34th Extraordinary Meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers.

The main agenda of the meeting is to consider EU-EAC Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and Sustainable Financing Mechanism for the Community.

Other issues that will be discussed are the EAC Political Federation, the appointment of a Deputy Secretary General from Tanzania, the appointment of a Judge from South Sudan to the First Instance Division of the East African Court of Justice.

Also to be discussed is assenting to Bills passed by the East African Legislative Assembly and will also present awards to the 2016 winners of the EAC Students Essay.

The Summit will also declare the transformation of the EAC into a Common Higher Education Area.

The East African Community (EAC) comprises of five Partner States including Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.

However, there are plans to admit the Republic of Somalia as the sixth state.
