Mutahi Ngunyi Reveals Why Kalonzo Musyoka Has not Withdrawn Presidential Bid

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi on Sunday revealed why the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) has two candidates vying for the presidency in the August elections stating that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was suspicious of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.

In his weekly address, The Fifth Estate, Mr Ngunyi explained that when dealing with Raila one had to be a chameleon and have a back-up plan because the ODM leader could not be trusted.

"In my view, there must be suspicion in NASA. There is the doubt that Raila will win the elections, that is why everyone in NASA including Kalonzo and sundry are having backup plans," Ngunyi stated.

In the hypothesis, the analyst argues that Kalonzo was caught unaware by the announcement of Raila as the NASA presidential candidate and was forced to support him despite being reluctant.

"Kalonzo was forced to say Raila tosha yet deep within he was reluctant. This is why he has not withdrawn his presidential candidature from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ," the analyst opined.

The Prof also noted that Raila's failure to nominate Kalonzo as his official running mate one month after his (Raila's) endorsement at Uhuru Park could have been an underlying factor since no official communication had been delivered to IEBC for them to remove Kalonzo's name from the aspirant's list.

According to the political analyst, if Raila had officially nominated Kalonzo, the IEBC would not have published his (Kalonzo's) name as the Wiper presidential flagbearer and as such NASA would only have Raila as its sole candidate.
