Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Senator Mike Sonko Dismiss Peter Kenneth's Bid for Governorship

Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero and Senator Mike Sonko on Saturday dismissed former Gatanga legislator Peter Kenneth's bid for Nairobi governorship stating that he would lose badly.

The leaders who were speaking at two different events exuded confidence that they would win the elections noting that Kenneth's bid to vie as an independent candidate was inconsequential.

Governor Kidero laughed off the re-entry of Mr Kenneth into the race stating that he was in political denial after being trounced in the primaries but still trying to make a comeback that would not lead to any success.

The Governor who was speaking at St Stephen Anglican church Nairobi explained that the people of Nairobi would elect him because he was reliable, consistent and dependable.

“We welcome him to the race because he was well on his way to becoming a Member of County Assembly but let him prepare for a political beating he has never witnessed.

“Just like the others in the race, let me tell him that Nairobi residents know who they want. They want a consistent, predictable, reliable and dependable leader and that person is me," Kidero stated.

Senator Sonko on his part stated that the re-entry of Kenneth would not ruin his chances and welcomed him for a tough contest.

“That is his democratic and his constitutional right. At the end of the day it is Nairobians who will decide who will be their next governor,” Sonko stated.

Sonko's running mate Polycarp Igathe, however, faulted Kenneth’s defection from the Jubilee Party to contest as an independent candidate terming it as a fraud.

“We have a challenge that there are people who come to an election expecting a guaranteed outcome. In an election, you can either win or lose but when you lose and then call yourself and independent you’re actually a fraud,” Igathe explained.

On Friday, Kenneth announced that he had quit the Jubilee party and would vie for Nairobi Governorship race as an independent candidate.
