NASA Flag-bearer Raila Odinga Dismisses Listing of Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka Among Presidential Candidates as Meer Speculation

Opposition Chief Raila Odinga has reacted to the inclusion of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka among the Presidential aspirants in the forthcoming elections terming it as 'mere speculation'.

"Any speculation is actually very unfounded. You could not submit any documents to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) before they have announced formal receipt of nomination papers," he stated.

Last week when the IEBC released the final list of aspirants for the upcoming elections, Musyoka was surprisingly listed as a presidential candidate even though he is a co-principal in NASA and Odinga's running mate.

Wiper Secretary General Hassan Omar, however, quickly moved to dismiss the development as one that had been overtaken by events.

"We first submitted Kalonzo as flag-bearer for the Wiper Democratic Movement and then on the basis of the then coalition agreement of CORD and now NASA, he shall be Raila's running mate," asserted Omar.

Musyoka also gave his two cents on the matter jokingly stating he was qualified.

"People must remember I was nominated by Wiper to be the flag-bearer...the National Elections Board gave me my certificate. That is why my name appears. In any event, don't you think I qualify?" he remarked.

IEBC listed a total of 19 presidential candidates, 11 of whom are independent aspirants. Five of the aspirants have, however, dropped out of the presidential race.

This year's election will record the highest number of candidates ever as all the positions available have attracted a significantly higher number of aspirants.
