A US-based investment firm, Vanguard Africa, has denied claims that it is funding campaigns for National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
The firm outlined that it indeed facilitated the opposition leader's April trip to Washington, however, no money was exchanged between the two parties.
"Vanguard Africa has never received money from nor disbursed money to Mr Odinga or his political party," a statement by the company read.
Vanguard is said to have been behind the trouncing of Gambia's dictator Yahya Jammeh and it's interest in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader was as such, viewed with contempt.
The company's executive director Jeffrey Smith, in a letter to Mr Odinga, stated that Vanguard Africa aimed to to provide partisan political advice.
“We hope to have a collaborative and open discussion about your campaign, current challenges and the real prospects for success,” stated the letter to Odinga.
Vanguard Africa argued that a cohesive opposition coalition provides Raila with the best opportunity to win at the polls and advance his legacy as a transcendent leader on the African continent.
The non-profit organization stated categorically that the sponsored trip was aimed at pushing for a free and fair General Election in August.
It further added that the high profile meetings held for the former Prime Minister were consistent with its mission of mounting calls for free, fair and transparent elections in Africa.
