3 Administration Police Killed, 2 Injured in Liboi Attack

Three Administration Police (AP) officers were on Wednesday morning killed and two others seriously injured after hitting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Garissa County.

The police perished after the vehicle they were travelling in ran over the explosive planted at Liboi en route to Garissa.

North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh confirmed the incident noting that the officers hit a landmine when they were on patrol in Kulan area.

The attack comes only a week after three Kenyans among them a senior chief  were killed and two police reservists kidnapped by Al Shabaab militants who staged an attack in Mandera.

The assault took place in Omar Jillo area leaving the area chief, Mr Dekow Abey who was popular for promoting peace and security, dead.

During the attack, two other locals were killed before the fighters took two police reservists hostage.

A senior police officer in Mandera, Suleiman Rashid disclosed to a local media house that government forces responded to the attack before more damage could be done.

The attack came even as the curfew imposed by the government was still on. This is the third attack the militants are carrying out on Kenyan soil in a span of two weeks.
