Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) Closes Kisii, Nyeri and Nakuru Campuses

Students at Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) have been left strategizing their next move after the institution resolved to close down three of its campuses.

The drastic move was arrived at in a meeting held on Monday last week and saw over 150 staff lose employment.

The staff include academic and support staff across the three campuses.

The affected branches include Kisii, Nyeri and Nakuru campuses that are set to be shut as the university implements restructuring measures.

The premier learning institution with its main campus in Meru has seen stiff competition following the entry of other private universities.

It is not clear what the institution will do to students who are currently enrolled at the institution as the move comes when learning is ongoing.

Efforts by Kenyans.co.ke to obtain a comment from the institution were futile as the management had not responded to our queries by the time of publishing.

However, sources privy to the details disclosed that the students will be transferred to its main campus in Meru.

Other campuses of the institution sponsored by The Methodist Church will remain operational and will continue admitting students.

The institution, headed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Henry K. Kiriamiti, is accredited by Commission for University Education (CUE) and offers Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Masters and Doctorate Programs.
