Inspector General Joseph Boinnet and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko Summoned

The Nairobi County Assembly has issued a summons for Inspector General Joseph Boinnet to respond to an incident where goons invaded the Assembly and assaulted officials.

The Assembly's Select Committee on Powers and Privileges has also asked Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko, Nairobi County Head of Security Francis Munyambu, civilians: Albert Koech, Caleb Otieno, Eva Wairuko and Benson Otiang'a to appear before it.

Speaker Alex Magelo outlined that both Mr Boinnet and Mr Tobiko had failed to give a report on their ongoing investigations into the April 7 incident at the fourth-floor wing of City Hall.

City Hall has been rocked with internal squabbles over the rightful occupants of the fourth floor where one group dramatically cemented off the entrance to the floor.

Mr Tobiko recieved a letter from the Assembly's Clerk, Jacob Ngwele, in which Mr Munyambu was named as having led a group of armed police officers and firemen with angle grinders - a tool typically used to tear down constructed walls.

"Officers lobbied teargas cannisters at assembly officials...cordoned off the floor and constructed the wall, notwithstanding that this was a gazetted precinct of the assembly and the matter was already in court awaiting final determination," the letter read in part.

"The Select Committee on Powers and Privileges has resolved that invitations be extended to the IG and DPP to appear before the court on Tuesday 30th May to shed some light on the status of their investigations as per the Clerk's letter dated April 11," Speaker Magelo explained as he issued the summonses yesterday.
