Jubilee Politician Moses Mwaura Receives Death Threats, Harassed for Supporting Raila Odinga

Seasoned Jubilee politician from Central Kenya, Moses Mwaura on Thursday revealed that he has been receiving death threats for supporting National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Shortly after he lost the Jubilee nominations, Mwaura held a press conference and led a host of other aspirants from the region in declaring their support for Odinga.

“Immediately after I gave a press briefing, I started receiving calls from strange numbers threatening me and warning me to drop my stand,” he told a local newspaper.

In the latest incident, he was confronted by two men who demanded that he should change his political stand.

The Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) cleric who contested for the Ndaragwa Constituency Jubilee party ticket withdrew his support for Uhuru Kenyatta after he lost the ticket in what he termed a bungled and unfair nomination.

He dropped his bid, opting not to vie as an independent candidate but did not defect from Jubilee. However, Mwaura vowed to back Raila's presidential bid.

He also complained that suspicious cars have been trailing him and he fears this could be part of a wider plot to assassinate him for his political stand.

The cleric has urged the police to assure him of his security after he reported all the incidents at Parklands, Kilimani and Central Police Stations.

Central Kenya is the political base of President Uhuru Kenyatta who will be seeking a second term in office come August.

Mwaura's act of supporting Raila may have been perceived by some as an act of betrayal.
