Police Arrest Al Shabaab Explosives Expert Ahmed Abdi Yare

Inspector General of Police (IG) Joseph Boinnet on Thursday announced that the Kenya Police had arrested an Al Shabaab explosives expert who is said to be responsible for recent landmine attacks in the North Eastern region.

In a statement to newsrooms, the IG explained that the police had conducted a successful operation for two days leading to the arrest of the wanted militia Ahmed Abdi Yare.

Police stated that they found the suspect with assorted weapons and explosive making materials.

The police boss also explained that the Sevice had beefed up their operations on militia who had sneaked into the country with the aim of launching attacks.

“We have also stepped our counter-terrorism operations in the region, aimed at eliminating the operatives who have infiltrated into the border areas from Somalia and their collaborators,” the IG's statement read in part.

The IG further urged Kenyans to promptly report any suspicious activity using the toll-free numbers 999, 911 or 112.

The statement from the police comes barely two days after 14 Administration Police (AP) officers were murdered in two separate attacks at Liboi in Garissa County.
