Dr Noah Wekesa Rejects His Job as Chairman of The Strategic Food Reserve Fund

Veteran Western Kenya politician Dr. Noah Wekesa on Friday made a rare surprise after seemingly rejecting an appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Wekesa who has been serving as the Chairman of the Strategic Food Reserve Fund since April 2015 bitterly complained about the job noting that he didn't need it.

The former Kwanza Member of Parliament made the remarks during a meeting attended by state corporations chiefs in Nairobi.

He lamented that he had been working as the chair of an unrecognised parastatal complaining that other government officials were not willing to listen to him even in issues that directly touch on the agency such as the maize shortage.

A disappointed Wekesa disclosed to the meeting that he didn't even have an operation office or staff to assist him in his duties.

“I drove all the way from Kitale in my 14-year-old car with my driver, who has been my personal driver for the last 30 years, and nobody is paying me mileage to come here. And yet I am chairman. I have no office. I have no staff,” he lamented.

The veteran MP gave his punchline questioning why someone would appoint him the head of a parastatal with no office, no staff and with no clear duties.

"Was someone trying to please me with this title of ‘chairman’ of the Oversight Board? I really don’t need that. There are other things I can do.” He stated.

He further revealed that he had made enquiries at the Ministry as to whether he was a parastatal chairman or a civil servant, and to his disappointment, he was informed that he was none of the two.

“Forty years ago, I was a civil servant in the Ministry of Agriculture. Now they have taken me back there and I am sitting with my sons and daughters who are civil servants. I don’t want to be a civil servant again. I want to deliver " he concluded.
