Kenyan Actors Who Have Made it to Hollywood

Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o is in no doubt the most famed film star who hails from Kenya.

Unbeknown to many, however, there are a few other Kenyan actors who have had illustrious careers even making it to the acclaimed Hollywood and other top film industries.

Some of the top actors to have joined the leading American film maker include:

1. Benjamin Alfred Onyango

The actor and producer was born in Kenya and grew up in Nairobi's Jericho estate.

He is known for his roles in; Tears of the Sun (2003), God's not Dead (2014), and Beautifully Broken (2017).

His fluency and mastery of Swahili have made him a household name since he is the go-to man in Hollywood for Swahili related roles.

 2. Eddy Gathegi

The actor and casting director was born in Eastlands region of Nairobi.

He is known for his role in the series; House, Gone Baby Gone, Twilight, Twilight Saga, X-Men, The Blacklist and the Blacklist Redemption.

3. Lenny Juma

He is an actor and casting director. Mr Juma became famous after his role in the movies; Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003), The Constant Gardener (2005) and Mountains of the Moon (1990).

4. Raymond Ofula

Mr Ofula is a Kenyan-born actor known for his role in local Kenyan films. He has, however, created his name internationally through movies like; Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003), To Walk with Lions (1990) and Kaleidoscope (2009).

5. Karara Muhoro

Mr Karara is an actor, known for Phone Booth (2002), Congo (1995) and Resident Evil 5 (2009).

6. Charles Gitonga Maina

He is a Kenyan-born actor known for his role in The Air Up There.

Mr Maina is also a basketball player. He earned a scholarship at Lynn University from 1997 to 1999 courtesy of his prowess in the game.
