Political Analyst Prof Mutahi Ngunyi in his weekly show the Fifth Estate revealed the five things that will determine who becomes the next President after the elections.
In his hypothesis, Prof Ngunyi compares achievements and visions of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga and gives a verdict of who between the two is the best candidate.
1. Achievements
While comparing the achievements of President Kenyatta and his rival Mr Odinga, the analyst noted that the Head of State had achieved a lot despite being in power for a few years whereas Raila had done nothing solid despite being in politics for over 50 years.
2. Vision
In the matter of who has the best vision for the country, Prof Ngunyi explained that Raila was best known for his political jokes and lacked a proper vision for the nation whereas Uhuru was keen is seeing the country progress and had a clear vision of where he wanted to take the country.
3. Youth and women
While addressing the question of youth and women, the political analyst mentioned that President Kenyatta had initiated a lot of projects for women whereas Raila was only keen on riddles and proverbs during political rallies.
4. Security
Prof Ngunyi also tipped Uhuru to be a more courageous leader based on his past security decisions where he did not tolerate threats. He (Ngunyi) cited recent utterances by the President where he vowed that anyone found vandalising of the SGR would be hanged.
The Prof noted that Raila was a less courageous leader and majorly associated with groups such as the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) which would blind him and affect his security decisions.
5. Leadership
Finally, Ngunyi believes that President Kenyatta is a change-oriented leader whereas Raila is a leader who brings continuity and politics.
In his view, the country needs a change-oriented leader with leadership skills and not a continuity leader and thus the reason why Kenyans might not elect Raila for President in the August elections.
"The choice between us is a choice between two ideas, political jokes such as Raila na mpira and Economic transformation represented by the SGR.
"This country has been fed with politics without leadership for long. Raila represents politics but Uhuru represents leadership. In my view, what this country needs is leadership and not politics," Ngunyi stated.
