National Treasury Allocates the Presidency Additional Sh1.3 Billion

The office of President Uhuru Kenyatta and that of his Deputy William Ruto have been allocated Sh1.3 Billion that is expected to be spent in the next three months.

The funds will mainly be used by projects run by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and DP Ruto's wife Rachel Ruto, but the huge sum involved has raised eyebrows.

One of the projects associated with the First Lady is a mentorship and rewarding scheme for pupils and the number of learners is set to be increased from 282 to 782.

Rachel Ruto, on the other hand, will have Sh626 Million to spend before June 30 in a woman empowering program that will equip women with table banking skills among others.

Interestingly, the money allocated to the two is over a third of the Sh3.7 Billion sought by the Ministry of Interior for recruiting of police and other additional security costs.

With just a few weeks to the end of the financial year, this move by Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich will be questioned by many as there are other pressing issues that need to be attended to in the country.

Rotich, however, stated that there was no need to panic because most of the additional expenses had already been spent and the supplementary budget was meant to regularise spending.

"Most of the funds had already been spent because we at the Treasury had approved the plans, so what we are doing is to regularise it.

"You do not need to worry about the time left to the end of the financial year," he stated.
