The Jubilee Party has suffered a major setback after 19 officials from Embu County decamped to other popular parties in the region.
The officials, on Tuesday, announced the decision declaring that they would now campaign for other aspirants in the region.
Embu Branch Chairperson Elias Kathiga who is a running mate to the Party of National Unity (PNU) gubernatorial candidate Kithinji Kiragu, indicated that the decision by the officials was caused by alleged interference from Jubilee Party headquarters.
"The party officials at branch level were disillusioned by their peripheral role in the decision-making process and interference by the Party’s headquarters and opted to shift to other parties," Kathiga stated.
He added: "The party headquarters is run by cartel advancing their own interests to the detriment of the Party’s Presidential and County level campaigns.
Kathiga further claimed that officials at the branch level were denied the power to run the party affairs independently.
He also accused Jubilee of conducting shambolic party primaries during the recently concluded exercise.
The officials, however, defended their decision to quit Jubilee arguing that most parties in the region were in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election.
