We Will Not Vote for NASA- Mumias Cane Farmers

Mumias cane farmers on Tuesday demonstrated along the Mumias-Kakamega road and told the National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders to forget their votes as they did not support efforts to prosecute culprits who led to the collapse of Mumias Sugar Company.

The farmers accused the opposition alliance of shielding the suspects who looted from the Miller yet they were clearly known.

"We want those who looted Mumias to be arrested and prosecuted. NASA is shielding people who stole from Mumias and unless they tell them to pay back what they took, no votes for NASA,"  Juvenalis Orao, one of the farmers noted.

Mr Orao also took a swipe at the County Government stating that they should also explain how Sh200 Million it gave to pay cane farmers was utilized.

"I have supplied the factory with my cane. For two years I have not received any payment yet the county tells us it released money to pay farmers," he stated.

Another farmer Godfrey Lutomia asked the Opposition leaders to stop politicizing issues affecting cane farmers.

"We have evidence and the suspects should be arrested. We will demonstrate until they bow to our demands," Lutomia stated.

The farmers demonstrated just two days after Mumias legal affairs manager Joseph Lubya was murdered in unclear circumstances.

Mumias region is perceived to be an Opposition stronghold as they overwhelmingly voted for NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga in the past election.
