Bald People Being Targeted in Mozambique

Many Kenyans have adopted the bald look with a beard and whenever you attend social events, you will come across a good number of people who are clean-shaven.

They might reconsider their haircut if they intend to visit Mozambique after police in the southern African nation warned that bald people could be targets of ritual attacks after the brutal killing of two men whose body parts were believed to have been used in witchcraft.

The killing of the two occurred in a part of the country that is already notorious for the persecution of albinos.

Apparently, there is a belief among locals that bald people are rich hence the atrocities levelled against them.

"Last month, the murders of two bald people led to the arrest of two suspects," said the national police spokesman Afonso Dias.

"Their motivations come from superstition and culture: the local community thinks bald individuals are rich," he added.

In neighbouring Tanzania, people with albinism are often attacked and their body parts used for various rituals.

Their body parts are highly valued in witchcraft and can fetch a high price.

Superstition leads many to believe they are ghosts who bring bad luck.
