Police officers on Saturday, November 16, nearly arrested two suspects linked to a spate of residential home breakings in an estate in Kajiado County.

The suspected robbers were cornered after their vehicle, a Toyota Probox, veered off the road and landed in a ditch during a police chase along the Nairobi-Namanga Road near Kajiado Township.

Despite getting involved in an accident, the suspects narrowly escaped police arrest, leaving behind their car and several assorted items that had been staffed inside sacks.

Upon impounding the vehicle, the officers recovered two 43-inch televisions, two mobile phones, a laptop, a batch of keys, two metal bars, and several number plates with different registration numbers.

The officers pursued the suspects following a tip-off by members of the public who informed the police about a robbery incident that had just taken place within the area.

According to residents who witnessed the unfolding, the vehicle ferrying the accused got involved in the accident after one of its tyres got punctured, causing the car to crash on the road before rolling several times into a ditch.

Addressing the press, the residents also commended the police officers for their swift response that helped to recover the stolen items. However, the locals called on the security officers to launch a manhunt and arrest the suspects.

“Let the government help us, these people have been disturbing us, they came and stole from a resident here in Kajiado, they were trailed but escaped into the nearby estates and crossed to the other side of the town,” narrated a witness.

“The vehicle was being driven at a high speed, but unfortunately, the tyre of their vehicle was punctured, making the vehicle roll several times down the ditch,” commented another witness.

The latest incident follows hardly a month after a similar occurrence took place in Meru, where detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested three suspects linked to a series of break-ins and killings in Imenti North and Buuri West Sub-Counties.

The trio, among them police based in Marsabit County, were arrested, during which the detectives recovered an M16 rifle with two magazines and 67 rounds of 5.5mm ammunition.

According to DCI officers from the Criminal Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), and the Operation Support Unit (OSU), they had been trailing the suspects after receiving reports about the crimes committed by the suspects.
