National Super Alliance (NASA) Flag Bearer Raila Odinga has demanded that President Uhuru Kenyatta sacks Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and his Agriculture counterpart Willy Bett over the ongoing food crisis.
Speaking on Wednesday during a press conference, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader accused the Jubilee Government of orchestrating the food shortage that has led to an increase in prices of basic commodities including maize flour.
Odinga called for a commission of inquiry to be formed so as to investigate the maize shortage being experienced in the country.
He accused the Jubilee administration of frustrating importation of cheaper maize from Ethiopia claiming that some people had ignored warnings in order to create an avenue for corruption by single-sourcing maize.
The ODM leader urged the Government to use grain reserve funds to import maize from neighbouring Ethiopia which is much cheaper.
Last month, the government imported about 30,000 tonnes of maize from Mexico to address the shortage.
This was after the cost of flour rose to an all-time high of Sh189 per 2kg packet due limited stock of maize.
All maize millers were then directed to sell maize flour at Sh47 for a 1kg bag and Sh90 for a 2kg packet following the government's intervention.
The shortage of flour is, however, still being experienced as millers have complained that the supply of imported maize is not consistent.
