There was tension in the Nairobi Central Business District on Wednesday afternoon after matatu operators took to the streets to protest, blocking a section of the busy Tom Mboya Street.
Several gunshots were fired in the air as police battled to disperse the rowdy crowd.
According to sources, the standoff was caused by the arrest of several crew members belonging Metro Class Sacco.
The resulting demo led to a heavy traffic snarl up heading in and out of the CBD, as motorists were left stranded.
