Machakos County Wiper Gubernatorial nominee Wavinya Ndeti has received a major boost after the Registrar of Political Parties, Lucy Ndung'u confirmed that she is not a member of two parties as announced by the IEBC.
Ms Ndungu explained that Ms Ndeti had resigned from her Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) in line with the Constitution.
"Records in my office indicate Wavinya Ndeti is a member of Wiper Democratic Movement party," Ms Ndung'u stated.
On Thursday, the IEBC Disputes Resolution Committee disqualified Ms Ndeti from vying for the Machakos governorship on grounds that she belonged to two parties.
The committee explained that although Wavinya had resigned from CCU, IEBC found that she had been involved in CCU's activities.
Under the electoral laws, when a person resigns from a party they are required to write a letter to their party and copy it to the registrar.
The Registrar on receiving the notice makes the resignation automatic.
The former Kathiani Legislator, has, however, moved to court to challenge the IEBC's ruling and obtain orders directing the polls body to publish her name in the final list of candidates.
Ms Ndeti's hopes now rest in the High Court which will determine her fate on appeal.
