Two men who stole digital literacy program tablets worth Sh 3.5 Million were on Friday sentenced to 3 years in prison.
Ramadhani Rai and Salim Kassim admitted to stealing the devices before Kwale senior resident magistrate Betty Koech.
The two accused persons admitted to committing the offence on May 8, along with other accomplices not before the court.
They broke into Mwema Primary School computer laboratory and made away with 77 digital devices together with 18 laptops which were donated by a Netherlands NGO.
Days after the theft was reported, police raided the home of Kassim where they recovered 17 laptops.
Ahead of the 2013 elections, Jubilee government promised to issue laptops to all pupils in public primary schools but this later changed to tablets.
The delivery of the promise has been hit with challenges with several cases of theft of the devices being reported across the country.
In a separate incident, Luvuno Ndegwa and Mohamed Kamshui denied charges of stealing the digital learning devices.
While presenting the case, the prosecution maintained that 32 devices were found in Ndegwa's home.
The two were released on a cash bail of Sh500,000.
