NASA Leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka Disagree in Mombasa Over Support for ODM and Wiper

As the National Super Alliance (NASA) took its vote hunting mission to Mombasa, differences between NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka played out in public.

During an Iftar (evening meal ending fast during Ramadhan) hosted by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Kalonzo urged Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders to stop advocating for their candidates.

“Don’t say ODM, ODM ODM and take everything because that will leave us with nothing,” He said.

The Wiper party leader also reminded those present of the existence of other parties, stating that “We have Amani National Congress and other partners in Nasa. Let’s stop asking voters to elect only ODM candidates."

Mr Odinga who was also at the event responded almost immediately to the comments of his running mate, urging voters to elect ODM candidates.

Odinga said that even though they were in a coalition, each party was campaigning for its own candidates separately.

“I know Mr Musyoka will advocate for Wiper, Mr Mudavadi ANC, Mr Moses Wetangula Ford-Kenya and Mr Isaac Ruto will say let the rain come from the skies (Chama Cha Mashinani's symbol is rain drops). But I say elect ODM candidates in Mombasa,” he said.

Efforts by NASA member parties to field joint candidates in areas where the parties enjoy significant support failed with each party having a candidate.

NASA had explored fielding joint candidates in particular regions to avoid splitting of votes that could see the rival Jubilee party candidates victory.
