Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko Reveals Why He Changed His Public Image to Adopting Suit-and-Tie Look

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has revealed that his new adopted look of formal suits has been inspired by his university education.

The Senator claimed that going through university changed his behaviour and as a result, he is a different man from the candidate that was elected in 2013.

"After graduating with my first degree, I wanted to apply the skills I had learnt at school. This is a different contestant, a different Sonko. I am even putting on a sleek suit to polish my image," Mr Sonko explained during a Radio Citizen interview.

Senator Sonko caused a buzz soon after the Jubilee Party primaries when he suddenly dropped his "blinged-up" casual look that had earned him a reputation and took up a formal suit-and-tie look for all his public appearances.

The Senator came to public light during a by-election for Makadara constituency where he trounced established politicians like the late Dick Wathika and Mr Reuben Ndolo to capture the seat.

He continued to gain popularity when he defied the presumed National Assembly rules on the mode of dressing as he insisted on wearing a t-shirt and jeans and speaking in Kenyan slang sheng.,

Sonko's stunts escalated to public shows of his flamboyant personality where he punched walls, flashed thousands of shillings in cash and even publicly displayed his firearms against the law.

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, who was also present at the interview opposed Sonko's assertions claiming that he still had a reputation problem that will not be favourable for the City's image.

"Dressing cannot determine how I live. I will put on suits at official functions but I will change to casual (wears) during weekends," Sonko countered.
