Raila Odinga Claims Jubilee Officials Influenced Award of August General Election Ballot Papers Printing Tender

National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has revealed how the Jubilee administration influenced the awarding of the August General Election ballot papers printing tender.

Speaking during the National Elections Conference at the KICC, Mr Odinga said that the decision to award the tender to Dubai-based firm Al Ghurair was influenced by the Jubilee party.

The NASA leader revealed that he had information that a series of meetings had taken place between the Company and Jubilee party officials.

He claimed that this was part of a wider scheme by Jubilee to rig elections" as was the case in 2013 when extra two million ballot papers were printed for the presidential elections.

The NASA leader affirmed that high ranking Jubilee Party officials visited Dubai in February 2016 and met the representatives from the company to discuss the tender.

"In October last year, officials from the company visited Kenya under the name "Dubai Chamber of Commerce" and secretly met high ranking Jubilee party officials to discuss details of the tender," he noted.

When IEBC gave the tender to Al-Ghurair in February 2017, Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) moved to court to challenge the decision. The High Court cancelled the tender indicating that the electoral body failed to comply with the amended election laws of 2016.

However, three days ago the electoral body awarded the tender to the same firm despite opposition from NASA.

The Opposition chief termed the move to award the Sh2.5 Billion ballot printing tender to the firm as ill-advised. He further demanded that the electoral body should do the right thing to ensure that the coming elections are free, fair, transparent and credible.
