High Court Nullifies Decision to Block Susan Kihika From Nakuru Senatorial Race

High Court Judge George Odunga on Wednesday suspended a decision by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) to bar Nakuru Senatorial Aspirant Susan Kihika from vying in August.

Ms Kihika's nomination had earlier been nullified by the tribunal on grounds that she had not resigned as Nakuru County Assembly Speaker as required by the law.

This was after her rival Margaret Wanjiru Kiiru, who is eying the same position as an independent candidate, filed a petition.

The tribunal led by Kyalo Mbobu stated that the Jubilee Party had violated the law by presenting Ms Kihika's name as its candidate before she resigned from her post.

Ms Kihika, who clinched the Jubilee ticket during Nakuru Senatorial nominations, was appointed as a member of the Jubilee presidential campaign team in Rift Valley in 2016.

The former US-based Lawyer became a County Assembly Speaker after unsuccessfully contesting a parliamentary seat in the 2013 General Election.

Ms Kihika is the daughter of the late Veteran Politician Kihika Kimani.
