Jubilee Party leaders from Deputy President William Ruto's home area of Turbo have rejected his appeal to vote in the Jubilee nominee for Turbo parliamentary seat Kevin Okwara stating that they would support independent candidate Janet Sitienei Rotich.
The leaders on Saturday, in what they termed as 'the Turbo declaration', promised to support Rotich and cautioned the DP against imposing leaders stating that Turbo residents had the right to choose the leaders they wanted.
Led by Julius Kitur, the group declared that Turbo constituency had it's 'owners'.
"Uhuru, Ruto and Governor Jackson Mandago have their votes safe but as concerns MP we will back Rotich," Kitur stated.
Mr Okwara won the nominations in April after beating incumbent Member of Parliament Elisha Busienei.
His win elicited a lot of reactions with some residents taking to the roads to protest Okwara's win arguing that he was not a native of the area.
The Turbo Jubilee parliamentary nominee, however, expressed confidence of winning the seat explaining that he was elected by all tribes in Turbo and noted that the residents would still back him in the August polls.
The declaration by the Turbo Jubilee leaders come only a few days after DP Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta toured Uasin Gishu County and urged losers in the Jubilee nominations to support winners.
The President and his deputy asked all their supporters in the county to vote in a 6-piece pattern to ensure Jubilee gains majority representation in all houses.
