2017 Form One Students to Report on January 9

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has disclosed the dates of admission of Form One students who sat for the 2016 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination.

Speaking on Thursday morning while releasing the KCPE results, Matiang'i announced that the selected candidates would join their respective Secondary schools on January 9, 2017.

According to Mating'i, selection of Form 1 students would kick off immediately with that of National Schools expected to be complete by next week.

He further added that selection letters would be sent to the various candidates before the Christmas holidays in a bid to give parents enough time to make adequate preparations.

The exercise, as per the CS, would be aided by electronic systems from the Ministry of ICT to avoid wastage of time.

In the 2016 examination, the top candidate attained 437 marks out the possible 500, being a drop from last year where the leading candidate scored 449 marks.

He added that from now onwards, those who attained 400 marks and above from either public or private schools would be selected to National schools of their choice.

CS Matiang'i added that all candidates would receive their deserved results since no cheating cases were reported, with only 21 attempted malpractices being handled before hand.

Matiang'i caught everyone by surprise after deciding to announce the results abruptly without hyping the event as has happened before.

More to that, he broke a tradition where the results have been released after the December festive season with the selection by Secondary schools being conducted in January.
